‘Don’t book Ola rides,’ Chandigarh administration tells cab users | Chandigarh News

The Chandigarh Transport Department has suspended the aggregator licence of ANI Technologies Private Limited, which operates the ride-hailing platform OLA, for a period of six months with immediate effect from Wednesday (June 17).

In a public notice issued by the department, authorities informed residents that the company would no longer be permitted to operate cab or bike taxi services in the Union Territory during the suspension period.

The suspension order, a copy of which is with The Indian Express, stated that the Transport Authority received multiple complaints alleging that ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd was not complying with provisions of the Chandigarh Administration Motor Vehicles Aggregators Rules, 2025, including those related to driver health and term insurance, training requirements, and fare structure.

Invoking powers under Rule 17 of the 2025 Rules, the licensing authority ordered the suspension of Ola’s aggregator licence in Chandigarh.

The order noted that despite repeated notices, meetings, and opportunities to furnish compliance reports, the company allegedly failed to submit the required responses and reports within the stipulated timelines.

The authority further recorded that a committee constituted to verify compliance found that the company had shifted its Chandigarh office without prior intimation.

It also cited allegations regarding non-compliance with notified fare rates and a subscription model under which drivers were allegedly required to make prepaid recharges, which the authority termed a violation of the Rules.

The department has directed owners of cabs and bike taxis attached to OLA not to ply their vehicles under the platform or accept ride bookings through the OLA application in Chandigarh. Officials warned that any violation of the order would invite strict legal action.

“The vehicles will be challaned (fined) and impounded in case of violation,” the notice stated, adding that enforcement action would be taken against erring drivers found continuing operations through the platform despite the suspension.

The Transport Department has also advised commuters not to book rides through cabs operating on the OLA application in order to avoid inconvenience. Residents have been requested to use alternative aggregator applications registered with the department for their transportation needs.

Officials said the suspension has come into force immediately and will remain effective for six months unless modified by the competent authority. Enforcement teams are expected to monitor compliance and take action against vehicles found operating through the platform in violation of the order.
