A woman sustained minor injuries after a portion of the ceiling reportedly collapsed at the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Guntur on Wednesday, triggering concern among patients and their attendants. The incident reportedly occurred near Ward 302 in the general surgery wing of the hospital.

The hospital authorities said the injured patient was immediately provided medical care and is under observation.

Guntur GGH Superintendent Dr. S.S.V. Ramana said the incident occurred in the general surgery ward when a ceiling board suddenly fell on a patient. He clarified that the affected structure was not part of an old building and that the patient suffered minor injuries.

According to Dr. Ramana, the ceiling arrangement had been installed recently. Preliminary assessment suggested that water leakage and rat infestation had damaged the particular ceiling sheet, leading to its collapse.

Following the incident, Guntur Collector C.M. Saikanth Varma directed the officials to undertake repairs to the entire roof, prevent rats from entering the ceiling area and address water leakage issues to avoid recurrence of such incidents.
